Deraney, a multi-time tournament winner, finished the 54-hole event with a 1-over score of 217 to earn a one-stroke victory over Michael Hodges (Belden, Miss.), who finished at 218 on rounds of 74-71-73.
Six bogeys, a double bogey and five birdies led to a final round 74 for Deraney, who made things perhaps more interesting than they should have been with a bogey-bogey finish to win the title by one-stroke over Hayes, who closed with a 73.
It was Deraney's second straight Mississippi Mid-Amateur title, following his win last year at Castlewood Country Club, adding to an impressive list of championships which include wins at the Mississippi State Amateur (2018), Kentucky Mid-Amateur (2016-17), Canadian Mid-Amateur (2018-19), Stocker Cup (2016, '19), Timuquana Cup (2016), and Carlton Woods Invitational (2018). He also finished runner-up at the 2019 U.S. Mid-Amateur.
