Jared Meyers takes the Palm Beach County Match Play title

Consistency was the key as Meyers makes par on the final eight holes to get the won over Ryan Howison

JUPITER, Fla.(Oct – Jared Meyers of North Palm Beach made only one bogey in 32 holes Sunday and had pars on his last eight holes enroute to winning the 30th annual Tire Kingdom/Mid- Amateur Match Play Championship.

Meyers beat John Pickett of Lake Worth in the semifinals 4 and 3, then out-steadied former touring pro Ryan Howison of Jupiter to win the championship flight finals by 2 and 1 on the Fazio course at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club at Old Trail.

For Meyers, 36, it was his eighth title, his third this year. “Yes, I would say it’s my biggest win,” Meyers said. “I’m happy to have my name on the trophy with a lot of great players in the Palm Beach County Golf Association.

“I didn’t play my best but I was consistent, especially on the back nine this afternoon after I three-putted the ninth hole, my only bogey of the day.

“I got off to a bad start Friday,” five over par after two holes. He settled down to shoot 77 and easily qualify for the championship flight, “and that’s all that really counts,” he added, “is to qualify, no matter what you shoot.”

Earlier this year, Meyers won the Four-Ball with Deron Zendt and the Tire Kingdom Stroke Play. Overall, three of Meyers’ eight PBCGA titles were in team events.

In the first flight, Walt Taormiona of Boca Raton beat Dan Getson of Royal Palm Beach in the finals, 4 and 2.
