It was just two weeks ago Hogarth took medalist honors at the U.S. Senior Amateur held at the Country Club of Detroit with a record-tying total of 134 (69-65) and then, just like that, he was gone, ousted by No. 64 seed Kory Frost in a 21-hole thriller in the first round of match play.
It happens.
This one wasn't as easy as his 11-stroke runaway victory a year ago, however.
After opening with an even par 72 on Brookside's C.W. Koiner Course, Hogarth found himself four strokes off the pace of first round co-leaders Hagegard and Ken Cruz, who carded brilliant 4-under rounds of 68.
No worries for the 1996 U.S. Amateur Public Links champion and 2010 U.S. Mid-Amateur runner-up, who knows Brookside Golf Club like the back of his hand.
Hogarth moved over to the E.O. Navy Course for the final round and carded a 67, which was the lowest round of the tournament. He opened with seven consecutive pars before hitting the accelerator, making birdies on 8, 12, 14 and 17 to secure a two-stroke victory.
How much does Hogarth enjoy playing Brookside Golf Club? In addition to his two straight Pasadena Senior titles, he has also won the last four Pasadena City Championships played at Brookside. He'll try to make it five in a row in March.
