Gresco cruises to Clark County Amateur title

An ace and a 65 in consecutive days gives the UNLV senior a 7-shot win at Boulder Creek near Las Vegas

J.J. Gresco, a former Nevada Amateur champion and a senior at UNLV, shot a final-round 65 to pull away from the field and win the Clark County Amateur by seven shots at Boulder Creek GC in Boulder City, Nevada.

Gresco's two rounds couldn't have been more different than one another. In the first round, he made 16 pars, a bogey and a hole-in-one on the 17th hole. That gave him a one stroke lead over Kyle Meade.

In the final round, Gresco was bogey-free with seven birdies. He had two streaks of three birdies in a row, on holes 4-6 and 10-12. By the turn he has stretched his lead to four and he never looked back from there, finishing with a 8-under 136 total.

Meade closed with a 71 to finish tied with San Diego State freshman Skyler Ngo (67).

Three players -- Christopher Plappert, Matthew Manganello, and Kenny Ebalo -- tied for fourth at even par.

John Kelley of the host club Boulder Creek won the Net division by six shots, finishing at 11 under par net for two rounds.
