Greenlief and Shirley to face each other in US Women's Mid-Am final

Lauren Greenlief blisters the course and record books in an 8 & 6 win; Shirley in 3rd straight final

Choudrant, La. (October 7, 2015) -- She’s been playing really well all week, but her latest victory at the US Women's Mid-Am is one for the record books. Lauren Greenlief's 8-and-6 win was the largest in a semifinal match in the championship's history. Her opponent today, Whitney Britton also had been at the top of her game, but there was no slowing down Greenlief on her bid to make it to the finals. Wins on five of the first seven holes provided a nearly insurmountable lead. Consecutive wins on nos. 10, 11 and 12 sealed the match for Greenlief, and gave her the semifinal record for largest victory. In the other semifinal, Canadian Christina Proteau faced Margaret Shirley, the defending champion who had made it to the finals in the two previous years. Proteau took command of the match early, wining the first hole with a par. She won the fourth hole as well, going 2-up, but by the turn it was back to all-square. On the inward nine, it was Shirley who took the early lead by winning the 11th hole to go 1-up. Proteau bogeyed 17 while Shirley managed a birdie to go 2-up and claim the match. Greenlief and Shirley will tee off at 9:00 am CDT at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La. More to come from the USGA.
