Golden Isles Senior Invite: Playoffs decide all three champions

Toshi Hirata won the senior division on the third extra hole with an eagle while Don Marsh won the super senior title

Just how close was the competition this week at Brunswick Country Club for the Golden Isles Senior Invitational? So close, that all three divisions required extra holes to settle the score. In the senior division, 2017 champion Toshi Hirata found himself among a cluster of players who posted under par scores. Chasing Stevie Cannady by two shots, Hirata posted a 1-under 71 to Cannady's 73 in the final round to grab a share of the lead. Hirata finished his round in with an eagle and two birdies over the last five holes, including a birdie on the last that gave him a share of first and forced a playoff. Hirata made his second eagle of the day on the third playoff hole, winning his second Golden Isles Invitational title. After finishing tied with Phil Pavoni at 6-under, Don Marsh won the Super Senior championship with a birdie on the second playoff hole. Former PGA Tour player and TV commentator Steve Melnyk of St. Simons Island, GA was part of a three way tie at 2-under 214 with Ernie Venet (Moultrie, GA) and David Nell (Sharpsburg, GA). In yet another playoff, Mark Baxter of Jupiter Hills, Florida defeated Donnie Revels of St. Simons Island after the pair tied at 4-over in the first flight. In the second flight, Bob Young of Dunwoody, GA was the only player to win his division outright. He posted 12-over to edge Jim Peterson of St. Simons Island by a single shot.
