Garrett Gillespie goes the distance to capture South Carolina Match Play title

Garrett Gillespie of Williamston, S.C., capped an impressive week of match play with a 1-up victory over States Fort to win the South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship at DeBordieu Club.

Gillespie, a sophomore at Lander University, controlled much of his path through the bracket. Fort, a Coastal Carolina University alumnus from Myrtle Beach, provided his toughest test of the championship, becoming the only player during Gillespie's seven match-play rounds to take him to the 18th hole.
