Gary Shover runs away with Vermont Senior victory

With consecutive rounds of even-par 71 at Champlain Country Club, Gary Shover cruised to a six-shot win

SWANTON, Vt. — After round one of the 2015 Vermont Senior Amateur Championship, Gary Shover led Chip Ward and defending champion William Hadden by two shots. He followed that up with a second consecutive 71, which allowed him to cruise to a six-shot victory at Champlain Country Club. Brian Flynn ended up securing the runner-up spot with two straight 74s, while first-round second-place holders Hadden and Ward fell back with disappointing final rounds. Hadden posted 76 and finished in a tie for third while Ward carded 79 and dropped into a tie for sixth. David Goodrich secured a win in the Super Senior flight thanks to back-to-back rounds of 79. A stroke behind him were four players tying for second place, including a pair of players who used stellar second rounds to jump into the top-five. Hagan Andersen's 74 was the lowest score posted in the flight and helped him rebound from a 85 in round one, while Bob Davidson fired 75 on the final day.
