Gary Lanzen escapes four-way playoff for Clark County Senior win

Gary Lanzen finished the final round with a 70 and captured the title in a four-way playoff at Boulder Creek

BOULDER CITY, Nev. — Gary Lanzen finished the final round with a 70 and sat around the clubhouse as his two-day total of 148 was still in first place. A first round 78 had him going off far before the leaders for the final round. Gary Carpendale was the next to finish and tied with Lanzen after a second round 71. The final group brought two more 148’s as Cyrus Whitney, the reigning Nevada State Senior Champion, and Mark Yogan both finished tied for the lead. Lanzen and Carpendale both made birdie on the first playoff hole to eliminate Whitney and Yogan. On Hole 2, a par 5, Carpendale had 15 feet for eagle and three putted to give the Championship away to Lanzen. Jim LiCausi won the Senior Net with a two-day adjusted total of 139. In the Super Senior Division, the 2014 Player of the Year, Frank Abbott, had a 34 on the back nine on day two to win another Championship with the SNGA. Abbott had company down the stretch as John Corbin and Ron Ramsey both had chances to win at certain points, but Abbott’s play only got stronger as the day went on. Mike Bridges won the Super Senior Net with an adjusted score of 133. Bridges, the former president of the Nevada State Golf Association, is moving to Florida and went out on a high note.
