Gary Carpendale goes low in final round to win Las Vegas Senior

With a final-round 68, Gary Carpendale rebounded from a 75 to win by three at Las Vegas Golf Club

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Gary Carpendale captured the 2015 Las Vegas Senior Amateur on Saturday at Las Vegas Golf Club, shooting a final-round 68 — the lowest round of the tournament by two strokes — to win in comeback fashion. Carpendale opened the event with 75, which put him five strokes behind first-round leader John Turk. But after making par on the first six holes of the second round, Carpendale fired off five birdies over his next 12 holes. The end result was a 4-under par 68, and a three-stroke victory over Joe Rada. Turk, who eventually finished tied for third place at 3-over 147, would have been in contention down the stretch but fell victim to a rough stretch during the middle of the golf course, where he went 5-over from holes 8 to 11 en route to a 77. Meanwhile, Rada's 71 on Saturday sent him up the leaderboard, as well, into the runner-up position alone. Cyrus Whitney tied for third place with Turk, posting rounds of 72 and 75.
