OPELIKA, AL (May 6, 2017) - Co-medalists and top seeded Vic Kyatt III of Birmingham and Andy McRae of Hoover won two decisive matches on Saturday with a 6 and 5 win over Phillip Weaver and Edward Hubbard of Tuscaloosa in the morning Round of 16 that included a walk-off hole-in-one from 140-yards by Kyatt on the 13th hole. Then followed it with a 6 and 4 victory over Walker Grant of Montgomery and Matthew Gourgeot of Decatur in the afternoon Quarterfinals.
Kyatt and McRae will square off against Matt Johnson and Heath West of Dothan who had to go the distance for a 1 up victory in their Quarterfinal match against 2016 Alabama State Amateur Champion Turk Pettit and George Hall of Auburn.
In other action, Forrest Crabtree of Mobile and Woodie Eubanks of Trussville will face Alan Coshatt and Austin Coggin of Vestavia Hills in the second semifinal match. Crabtree and Eubanks advanced with a 2 and 1 win over Matthew Myers and Will Golden of Auburn in the round of 16 and a 4 and 3 decision over Trip Smalley and Michael Johnson of Mobile. Coshatt and Coggin needed all 18 holes to defeat Saugahatchee members Walker Jamison and Jim Teel, 2 up in the round of 16 but only needed to 14 holes to advance past Kevin Carden of Hoover and John Randall of Tuscaloosa by a 6 and 4 score.
Semifinal matches begin at 7:30 a.m at Saughatchee Country Club with the championship match slated for approximately 12:00 p.m.
