ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (Oct. 11, 2014) — Englishman Edward Richardson opened the St. Augustine Amateur with a three-under par 67 at St. Johns Golf Club, giving him a two-stroke advantage.
But after Saturday's second-round play, three other players have joined him at the top at one-under par overall heading into the final round.
Canadian-born Ryan Borg (pictured), a University of South Florida sophomore, shot four-under 66 to jump into a tie for the lead and claim the lowest round on Saturday.
Jacksonville native Cory Carlson, who is a University of Georgia commit, shot rounds of 70-69 to join Richardson and Borg at 139. Rounding out the group at one-under is Brandon Mancheno, a 15-year-old who also hails from Jacksonville.
Mancheno, who recently tied for eighth place at the Florida State Junior Amateur, has posted rounds of 69-70 through 36 holes of play.
Richardson followed up his 67 with a two-over par 72. Though the round included four of his nine birdies thus far through 36 holes, Richardson made six bogeys, including three in a row from holes five to seven.
Travis Trace and William Gordon are one back in a tie for fifth place at 140.
Overall, 20 players are within four five shots of the lead headed into Sunday's final round.
