KANNAPOLIS, NC (June 6, 2017) - Four amateurs, all from the Charlotte, NC area, hold the lead at 5-under after the first round of competition at the 53rd SignArt North Carolina Open Presented by Mobipaid being held at The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, NC. Defending Champion David Kocher plus Jake McGlone, Nolan Mills IV, and Aman Gupta all posted scores of 66.
One hundred sixty-eight of the top playing PGA Professionals and amateurs in North and South Carolina have come together for the 54-hole championship.
Aaron Black, the PGA Apprentice General Manager of Edgewater Golf Club in Lancaster, SC, is currently the low professional, sitting only one stroke behind after a 33-34=67 (-4). He is tied for fifth with amateurs Thomas Eldridge of Raleigh, NC and Eric Bae of Pinehurst, NC.
For the second round, those who started in the morning will be repaired by score in the afternoon wave and vice versa. After 36 holes, the field will be reduced to the low 60 and ties.
