Evan Knight wins dramatic five-way playoff at Sacramento City

Evan Knight eagled the second playoff hole to emerge from a five-person playoff at Haggin Oaks

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Evan Knight, a red-shirt sophomore at UC Davis, was part of a five-way playoff at the conclusion of the Sacramento City Championship on Sunday. At five-under par 139, Knight, along with Seung Maeng, Pedro Oviedo, Nicklaus Yell, and Scott Raber, headed to the first tee for a dramatic multi-player sudden-death. Everyone but Oviedo birdied the first hole, and as the four remaining players moved on to the second playoff hole, the par-5 18th, Knight drained a 20-foot eagle putt from off the fringe to claim victory. Knight, a Novato, Calif. native who went to high school at St. Vincent de Paul, trailed opening-round leader Steven Chung by a stroke entering Sunday after he posted 69, and followed it up with two-under 70 to join the others in extra holes. Chung backed up his 68 with 73 in the final round and finished two shots out of the playoff in a tie for seventh place.
