Estorga finishes off two-shot Texas North Mid-Am win

Anthony Estorga held his second-round lead and turned it into a two-shot victory

Dallas’ Anthony Estorga shot a final-round 2-under 70 on Sunday at the North Mid-Amateur at Waterchase Golf Club to capture the victory. He won by two shots over Colleyville’s Zach Atkinson and Fort Worth’s Jeff Murray. Southlake’s Mike Lohner was recognized as the Low Mid-Master Sunday afternoon after an even-par 72.

Estorga started the day with eight pars before carding his first birdie of the day on the par-4 ninth hole. He followed that up with a double bogey on the 10th, but carded three birdies coming home on Nos. 16-18 to secure the victory. Estorga’s 2-under 70 put him at 9-under 207 for the tournament.

Lohner led wire-to-wire and was recognized as the Low Mid-Master at Waterchase Golf Club. He had five birdies on the day, including three on his bogey-free back nine. He carded an even-par 72 and finished at 4-under 212 for the tournament.

Atkinson stormed up the leaderboard Sunday afternoon, playing well in front of the leaders. He bogeyed the 10th hole, but had six birdies in his final 7 holes, including the last four to vault his way up near the top of the leaderboard. Murray played consistently and recorded his third round under par Sunday.

David Richards and Kevin Doskocil finished in a tie for fourth place, four shots back of Estorga. Scott Maurer and Lohner finished in a tie for sixth place, just five shots back of Estorga.
