Elise Lee Dominates Southwestern Women's Amateur for Record-Tying Victory

The second event in the Elite Women's Amateur Golf Series

Elise Lee arrived at Desert Mountain fresh off another deep NCAA Championship run. Four rounds later, she left with a trophy and a place in Southwestern Women's Amateur history.

The rising USC junior from Irvine, Calif., pulled away from the field on the final day to win the Southwestern Women's Amateur by six shots, closing with a 3-under 69 and matching the tournament's 72-hole scoring record at 14-under-par 274.

Lee entered the final round with a two-shot advantage over Ole Miss standout Mary Miller but quickly turned the championship into a runaway.

After a steady front nine, Lee took control on the back side with precise wedge shots that produced birdies at Nos. 10 and 11. The lead stretched to four shots and never dropped below that number the rest of the day.

"I didn't think too much in the beginning, I just played my own game," Lee said. "But as we got near the end, I found myself getting momentum and the putts were falling."

They fell all week.

Lee became the first player in tournament history to record four consecutive rounds in the 60s at the Outlaw Course, posting scores of 69-69-67-69. Her 14-under total tied the championship's 72-hole scoring mark and showcased the complete game that helped Northwestern win a national championship in 2025 before her transfer to USC.

The formula was simple: elite wedge play and exceptional putting.

"My inside-100-yard wedge shots were really solid this week, which helped a lot, especially on a course like this," Lee said. "The greens are shallow, so distance control is very important. And your putting has to be good, and this has got to be the best putting week I've ever had in my career."

Miller and Pepperdine's Grace Anderson were both within striking distance at the turn but couldn't keep pace on the inward nine. Each played the back side in 1-over-par and finished tied for second at 8 under. Anderson closed with a 71 while Miller carded a final-round 73.

U.S. National Junior Team member Mia Clausen finished fourth at 6 under, while Scarlett Schremmer and 2024 runner-up Kaili Xiao shared fifth at 4 under.

Elite Women's Amateur Golf Series Spotlight

The Southwestern Women's Amateur continues to grow in stature as one of the premier events in women's amateur golf. The championship is one of five tournaments that comprise the Elite Women's Amateur Golf Series and serves as a counting event in the season-long Elite Amateur Cup race. The series brings together many of the nation's top-ranked amateurs across a schedule that also includes the Sea Island Women's Amateur, North & South Women's Amateur, Women's Western Amateur, and LNGA Amateur. Players earn Elite Amateur Cup points based on their performances throughout the series, creating a summer-long competition among the game's best amateurs.

As a member of the Elite Women's Amateur Golf Series, the Southwestern Women's Amateur also offers significant opportunities for competitors, including exemptions into other series events for the champion.

This year's championship field reflected that elevated status, bringing together elite college players, international competitors, and several members of the U.S. National Junior Team for the sixth edition of the women's championship.

For Lee, it was the perfect way to begin her summer schedule.

Coming off another successful collegiate season, she showed little rust in her first individual tournament of the summer and never altered her approach despite the shift from team golf to individual competition.

"You are thinking more of your team when you are in a team event," Lee said, "but there are still individual results when you are in a team event, so there's not much of a shift in the mindset of playing my own game."

That game proved more than enough at Desert Mountain, where Lee separated herself from one of the strongest fields in tournament history and added her name to the championship's growing list of winners.
