Eichhorn maintains top position at Wisconsin Amateur

Hunter Eichhorn has stayed under 70 all week at the Wisconsin Amateur, and it's a big reason why he's still in the lead

WEST ALLIS, Mich. (July 25, 2018) – Hunter Eichhorn has yet to shoot a round in the 70s at the 117th Wisconsin Amateur. Eichhorn, the rising Marquette junior and Big East individual champion, has played his way to 10 under at Minocqua Country Club and leads the state championship by one shot. Eichhorn, who had the second-round lead, started his day with birdies on the first two holes. His only bogey came at No. 8, then he added two more birdies on the back for a 3-under 69. Eichhorn remains one shot ahead of Thomas Longbella, of Chippewa Falls, Wis., but it was close on Wednesday. Longbella birdied the 17th to get a share of the lead, but lost it again with a bogey on No. 18. Longbella, the first-round leader, lost ground in Round 2 with a 1-over 73. Through three rounds at Minocqua, Harrison Ott of Brookfield, Wis., has also kept pace. His third-round 68 let him at 8 under for the tournament, and in solo third. Piercen Hunt of Canada and Brock Hlinak of Kaukauna, Wis., are tied for fourth at 6 under. The round of the day belonged to Christopher Colla, Wis., who had 66. Colla’s colorful card included seven birdies, a bogey, an eagle and a double-bogey.
