The Belmont University sophomore started hot with 5-under 30 on the front nine. The back proved to be a bit more of a scramble, and he went to the par-5 No. 18 stuck at 5-under. Two perfect shots to the green and a holed 30-foot eagle putt, and he posted the day’s lowest round.
Schoenberger made six birdies, an eagle, and one bogey en route to his 63.
Charlie Hanson from Virginia Tech, Radford’s Bryce Corbett, and University of Utah golfer Brandon Robison share second place two shots back at 6-under par.
Chesapeake’s Patrick Gareiss, who plays at Radford, and incoming Wake Forest freshman Kyle Haas are tied for 5th at 4-under.
60 golfers made the cut at 5-over.
