Doug Roxburgh captures Canadian Senior Amateur

WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. (August 29, 2014) – Vancouver’s Doug Roxburgh won his first Canadian Men’s Senior Championship title Friday, firing a 2-under-par 69 at Capilano Golf and Country Club for a tournament total of 7-under 277. Roxburgh held off American Brady Exber of Nevada -- the recent winner of the British Senior Am -- who shot 7-under over the weekend to force the Roxburgh to finish strong. Roxburgh's resume is strong. And that's putting it mildly. He is a four-time Canadian Amateur and 13-time British Columbia Amateur champion. You might be impressed if a person told you they had won their club championship 13 times, let alone a provincial amateur in a coastal area known for its excellent golfers. But even with all that hardware in Roxburgh's trophy case, winning never gets old. “It feels outstanding,” Roxburgh explained. “I had a good week here. It was fun, I had great playing partners and the course was outstanding. Each national championship is special, but it’s nice to win in Vancouver in front of my family, friends and clubmates from Marine Drive (Golf Club) who came out to support me.” Roxburgh's victory earns him an exemption into the U.S. Senior Amateur, being played in September at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach. He didn't commit immediately upon realizing he had an exemption, but somehow AmateurGolf.com bets we are going to see him there. “I still need to talk it over with my wife,” said Roxburgh. “I did try about 10 days ago to qualify for it (US Senior Amateur) in Portland, but I didn’t make it. I’ve only played one other USGA event and it was many years ago – the U.S. Amateur – so it might be sort of fun. And, I hear the golf course is just outstanding. So, you’ll probably see another Canadian flag on the leaderboard… somewhere.”
