Doug Hanzel defends title at National Senior Hall of Fame

Doug Hanzel descends on the furniture capital of the world -- High Point, NC -- and defends his title over Brady Exber

HIGH POINT, North Carolina (June 16, 2017) -- So just how good is Doug Hanzel, senior amateur golfer? Let's just say he's leading the AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings with more than 50% more than his pursuer, Jack Hall. (And both Jack Hall and Hanzel hail from Savannah Georgia). We'll leave it to one of our members (and a competitive senior who played the USGA Senior Am last year) Stephen Friend, to give you his description of Hanzel's game: "I played last Saturday with my brother and his neighbor, Doug Hanzel," said Friend in a Facebook post after a recent trip to Savannah. "Doug is the number 1 ranked senior golfer in the U.S. He's won the USGA Senior Amateur, was low amateur in the USGA Senior Open, recently won the Azalea Senior and a host of other top tournaments. I have never seen anyone swing so fast through the ball, including the pros. He is 5'9", 150 lbs. and routinely hits it 290 to 300 hundred yards off the tee." His scores in North Carolina? After opening with a 76 that put him well back of the leader, Hanzel came back and shot rounds of 69 and 67 to grab a 3-shot victory over an amazing group of talent -- Brady Exber, the aforementioned Jack Hall, and one of the most decorated amateurs in history, Paul Simson. Look for a feature article on Doug Hanzel soon. He's certainly earned it.
