Dorman, Griffin rally to win inaugural FSGA Foursomes title

ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 8, 2018) – Brent Dorman and David Griffin, both of Ocala, Fla., have won the inaugural FSGA Foursomes Championship after rallying in the second round.

In the first round at Grand Cypress, Duke Butler and Len Schoenfeld jumped out to a one-stroke lead with an opening 3-under 69. Entering Saturday’s final round, there were three other teams in the hunt after under-par rounds: Riley Goss and Collin Warren (70); Dorman and Griffin (70); and Darin Green and Jon Veneziano (71).

Butler and Schoenfeld did not hold the lead long, however. After going out in 6 over par on the front nine on Saturday, they were quickly behind the eight ball. After coming home in 33 to post a second-round 75, the team finished the championship even par and in fourth.

Paired together, the teams of Dorman and Griffin and Goss and Warren were neck and neck on the whole day. Tied through 15, Goss and Riley fell one behind with a bogey on the par-3 16th, then quickly recovered by birding the par-5 17th. On 18, all tied, Dorman put his approach inside 10 feet below the hole, and Griffin converted for birdie and the title. Goss and Warren made par to finish second.

In the senior division, Rick Cloninger and Steve Riviere posted eight birdies in the second round and stayed bogey free for a 64 that allowed them to come from behind and win by two shots.
