Deraney and Meinhart win the Peninsula Cup with record total

The strongest field to date gathered for the 17th Peninsula Cup, played at the Kingsley Club in northern Michigan.

In the Mid-Amateur Division, Joseph Deraney and Derek Meinhart fired a 126 (-16) over two days to win the title and smash the previous tournament low of 130 set by Andrew Chapman and David Hall in 2019.

Over 36 holes, they carded 16 birdies and no bogeys. Deraney (2019 Canadian Mid-Amateur champion and U.S. Mid-Amateur runner-up) and Meinhart (2015 Carlton Woods Invitational champion) also teamed up to win the Trans-Mississippi Four-Ball in 2020.

The teams of Christian Vozza / Matt McLaughlin (champions in 2017 and 2018) and Casey Lubahn / David Inglis shared second at 13-under 129. The defending champions Kenny Cook & Sean Rowen were fourth at 12 under.

In the Senior Division, Kingsley Club member, Ken Hudson, and reigning Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) Senior Men’s Player of the Year and 2021 Trans-Miss Senior Champion, Steve Maddalena, won the title handedly by getting out to a 5 stroke lead after day one by shooting 64 and coasting to victory with a 68 on day two for a total of 132 (10 under).

This was Ken Hudson’s fourth Peninsula Cup title (’12,’15,’16,21). In addition to the Senior Title, Hudson and Maddalena were also crowned Overall Champions (receiving an honorary one-year membership to the Kingsley Club) after a sudden death playoff when Hudson knocked it to two feet from the west tee to the bowl on #9 and tapped in for birdie.
