David Boote grabs narrow lead at South American Amateur

Stanford golfer Boote leads by one with defending champ Scott Harvey, first round leader Matias Smaski and Juan Alvarez lurking a shot behind

LIMA, Peru (January 22, 2016) - Stanford University golfer David Boote birdied his final hole today to post a 2-under 70, just good enough to take a one stroke lead into the third round at Lima Country Club. Boote, from Surrey England, posted a 36-hole total of 6-under 138. But that lead is anything but safe as a the three players 1-shot back at 5-under include first round leader Matias Simaski (67-72) as well as defending champ Scott Harvey (70-69). Also in the 5-under group is Juan Alvarez of Uruguay, who finished T19 at last week's Latin American Amateur. PREVIOUSLY POSTED LIMA, Peru (January 21, 2016) -- Matias Simaski leads by one after a first-round 67 at the South American Amateur. The 25-year old amateur from Argentina went around Lima Country Club without a bogey, collecting five birdies along the way. Simaski gained full status for the 2016 PGA Tour Latin America season after a win on the developmental tour last fall. Thus, this is likely one of his last events as an amateur as the season begins in February. He's certainly making the most of it so far. Four golfers trail Simaski by a shot including Ecuador's Andres Arango and Stanford golfer David Boote. U.S. Mid-Amateur Champion Scott Harvey and U.S. Four-Ball Champion Todd White sit three shots back after opening with 70.
