Beard posted a score of 11-under for the 54-hole event, besting Jeff Berry of Shreveport, La., and fellow amateurs Hunter Logan of Steens, Miss., and Zach Longgrear of Madison, Miss. by one shot.
Beard lit some late Fourth of July fireworks during his second round 65, with nine birdies, an eagle, and four bogeys.
The tournament finished on time, and the course stayed playable despite some scattered thunderstorms.
"Today I got off to a pretty hot start and then cooled down with a lot of pars," Beard told the PGA Section media. "I felt I was pretty good off the tee. I’ve been struggling a little bit, but I was hitting it well this week. I’ve never played at Metairie Country Club so 2024 should be pretty fun.”
A fast start indeed, as Beard made four birdies through his first six holes in his final round. He would play the last 12 holes at 1 over but the four early birdies proved to be enough to hold off the field. He made par on every hole on the back nine.
