The inaugural Sunnehanna National Four-Ball was played from August 5th to August 6th at the Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown, Penn. Davey Jude of Kermit, W.V., and Cam Roam of Huntington, W.V., won the first edition of the 54-hole tournament in comeback fashion.
After firing a blistering 10-under-par 60 – the best round of the tournament by two strokes – the duo from West Virginia tied 36-hole leaders Brandon Grzywacz and Jacob Golliday of Pinehurst, N.C., to force a playoff.
On the first hole of the playoff, Jude sank a 20-foot birdie putt on the par-4 18th hole to seal the victory.
Roam and Jude shot rounds of 64-65-60, finishing 21 under par, to top the 43 teams from across the United States and Canada. Runners-up Grzywacz and Golliday finished with rounds of 63-62-64.
Both Roam and Jude are highly accomplished mid-amateurs. Jude qualified for the 2024 U.S. Amateur in July in Southern Pines, North Carolina, and was runner-up in the 2023 West Virginia Amateur. Roam won the 2019 West Virginia Mid-Amateur and has four top-10 finishes in the West Virginia Amateur Championship.
The renowned club has hosted the Sunnehanna Amateur Championship since 1954, with legendary winners including Chick Evans, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods.
The Sunnehanna Amateur is one of the seven prestigious tournaments that form the Elite Amateur Golf Series, which was established in 2022 to unify the top competitive amateur golf events. The historic club also hosts the Sunnehanna Senior Amateur, conducted since 2005.
