PALATKA, Fla. — While Andreas Halvorsen was in position, and had his sights set on repeating at the Florida Azalea Amateur on Sunday with his two-shot lead entering the final round, University of Georgia commit Corey Carlson had other ideas.
He stormed from five back to with a Sunday 63 to push ahead of Halvorsen and win the tournament by two shots.
Halvorsen, a class-of-2015 junior golfer from Norway, opened the tournament with rounds of 65 and 67, and still played well shooting 69 on Sunday, but Carlson's seven-under 63 was just too good.
Carlson, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., has committed to play for the Bulldogs in the fall of 2015. His future team finished second at the Linger Longer Invitational this weekend, two shots back of Texas, while junior Lee McCoy took home individual honors.
Tim Colanta and Blake Dyer tied for third place at six-under par 204 while a trio of players wrapped up the top-five at 205, including 2014 St. Augustine Amateur winner Edward Richardson of England.
