Cordell, Lach cling to one-shot Champions Cup lead after 36 holes

The Texas duo has put together rounds of 65-68 for the advantage at the halfway point

The Texas team of Matt Cordell and Bryant Lach combined for a solid 3-under 68 at Champions Golf Club on Friday, good enough to maintain their one-shot at the halfway point of the Champions Cup Invitational. Swirling wind on the challenging par-71 Cypress Creek Course at Champions Golf Club in Houston didn’t make that an easy task. Cordell and Lach combined for one eagle, two birdies and one bogey, which allowed them to maintain their lead heading into Round 3 on Saturday. For 36 holes, the duo is 9 under.

Nick Ushijimia of Japan and Bowen Osborn of Florida came on strong in Round 2 with their 4-under 67 for a 36-hole total of 8-under 134. Their round included five birdies and one bogey.

Three teams are tied two shots back with 36-hole totals of 7-under 135.

The Indiana-based team of Donnie Aldrich and Brett Widner carded 6-under 65, which was the low round of the day. Oklahoma’s Sam Braver and Ben Klaus and Illinois’ Ty Comerford and Dustin Sloat both shot rounds of 4-under 67 on Friday.

A total of 56 two-man mid-am teams, from 27 states, and the countries of Japan, Canada and Scotland are competing in the prestigious national four-ball event.

The third round is scheduled for Saturday, with the final round following on Sunday afternoon.
