Cooke finishes on top at John Burke Memorial

Tyler Cooke won the John Burke Memorial on Wednesday with two shots to spare

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Oct. 10, 2018) – Tyler Cooke won the John Burke Memorial Tournament on Wednesday after a final-round, even-par 70 at Wanumetonomy G&CC. Cooke finished on top with two shots to spare.

Cooke, who plays out of Wannamoisett Country Club, started his week with a 2-over 74 at Shelter Harbor Golf Course. That round included an eagle and five bogeys. He came back with 1-under 71 at Newport Country Club. His 54-hole total of 2-over 215 left him two shots better than Ryan Pelletier.

Cooke played college golf at the University of Connecticut. He also played ice hockey for UConn.

Pelletier, who had rounds of 76-67-74 (his second-round score was the lowest of any player during the tournament) has had quite a run in the past few weeks. He partnered with his brother Kyle to win the Gilhom Cup last month. Over the weekend, he competed in the Southeastern Amateur and finished third.

Bobby Leopold, winner of the 2017 New England Amateur, was third at 6 over. Leopold has won this title four times before: 2009, ’10, ‘12 and ’13.

Defending champion Brad Valois did not play.

In the senior division, Rob Grossguth won the title by a six-shot margin with rounds of 73-71-76. He finished ahead of Chris O’Neill and Michael Arter.
