Co-medalist Adam Wallin leads Ohio State to Cal Poly Invitational title

Ohio State made the most out of its journey to the west coast as the Buckeyes came away with the team and individual titles at the inaugural Cal Poly Invitational held at The Preserve in Carmel, Calif.

The Buckeyes entered the final round eight shots behind Northwestern but managed to shoot a final round of even-par 288 to finish at 19-under 845, which was good for a three-stroke win over its Big 10 rival.

Ohio State junior Adam Wallin and Oregon's Owen Avrit shared medalist honors at 10-under 206, as both players picked up their second career individual titles.

With the weather conditions rapidly deteriorating at The Preserve, which is located on the southern ridge of Carmel Valley, Wallin fired a final round 69 (-3) while Avrit grinded out six consecutive pars to finish off a 2-under round of 70 and gain a share of the individual title.

Wallin and Avrit are the two most recent champions to be crowned at The Preserve, following Michael Jensen's victory at the Stocker Cup on Oct. 22.

Ohio State's Maxwell Moldovan carded a 2-under par 70 to finish in a tie for sixth at 5-under par, marking his third top-10 finish in four events this fall.

Neal Shipley finished his tournament with a final round 74 and finished at 1-under par to tie for 20th, his first top-20 finish as a Buckeye.
