The 24-golfer Carolinas team owns a 15-point lead (43½-28½) over their Virginias counterparts entering Wednesday’s final day

WILMINGTON, N.C. (July 15, 2014) –– The 24-golfer Carolinas team owns a 15-point lead (43½-28½) over their Virginias counterparts entering Wednesday’s final day of the 58th Virginias-Carolinas Women’s Team Matches being conducted at Porter’s Neck Country Club. Carolinas won second day modified foursome matches by six points (21-15). Carolinas owned a nine-point advantage following Monday’s first day of modified four-ball matches. Carolinas notched six wins and halved three other matches on day two; the team scored at least one-half point in 11 of the 12 matches for a second consecutive day. For Carolinas, the tandems of Cecilia Fournil (Columbia, S.C.)-Savannah Hallman (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) and Mary Katherine Donovan (Hampstead, N.C.)-Catherine Shealy (Columbia, S.C.) registered shutouts and an accompanying three points in their encounters. Virginias, meanwhile, received a 3-0 blanking from the team of Elizabeth Cheng (Virginia Beach, Va.)- Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, Va.). Carolinas also received wins and two and a half points from North Carolinians Kim Briele (New Bern, N.C.)-Susan Beaupied (Raleigh, N.C.) as well as Lea Ann Brown (Mount Pleasant, S.C.)-Chrissie Spidell (Greenville, S.C.). On the Virginias side, regulars Kayleigh Reed (Virginia Beach, Va.) combined with Alexandra Austin (Burke, Va.) to record two and a half points. Also for Carolinas, Patty Moore (Charlotte, N.C.)-Karen Feree (Hilton Head, S.C.) as well as Kathryn Miranda (Lexington, S.C.)-Rachel Moore (Lexington, S.C.) contributed two points and Virginians Lauren Eklund (Charlottesville, Va.)-Sydney Snodgrass (Harrisville, W.Va.) did the same.
