Solis, a La Quinta, Calif., native, trailed by one shot after the opening round. His second-round 70 was the second-best score on the board on Sunday, however. Only Forbes Collins II, who climbed into solo second, posted better. Collins backed his opening 76 with 69 and with a 145 total, finished two shots behind Solis.
As for defending champion Ricky Castillo, an opening 72 gave him a share of the first-round lead, but a closing 73 was not enough to earn him the title defense. Castillo, of Yorba Linda, Calif., represented the U.S. in Junior Ryder Cup since last year’s RSM Amateur. He plays a heavy junior schedule, but also won the Los Angeles City Junior Championship in 2018.
