Bryan Hoops goes back-to-back as playoffs decide SOS Senior Masters titles

Bryan Hoops defends in style while Peake and Jonson prevail in playoffs at Indian Wells

Bryan Hoops of Tempe, Ariz., delivered a composed final round to successfully defend his title at the 2026 Society of Seniors Senior Masters, closing with a 3-under 69 to finish at 7-under 208 (71-68-69) at Indian Wells Golf Resort in Indian Wells, Calif.

The victory didn’t come easy. Hoops was pushed all the way by Rick Stimmel of Pittsburgh, Pa., who carded 6-under 209 (70-67-72) to finish runner-up after a tightly contested final round. The two traded momentum throughout the day, but Hoops held his nerve down the stretch to secure the win. Randy Haag of Orinda, Calif., the 2024 Senior division champion, stayed within reach and finished third at 3-under 212 (72-71-69).

The Super Senior division delivered one of the week’s most dramatic finishes. Allen Peake of Macon, Ga., broke through for his first Society title, defeating Jerry Rose of American Fork, Utah, on the second playoff hole after both players finished regulation at 1-under 214. Peake put together rounds of 72-70-72, while Rose surged late with a bogey-free 68 to force extra holes. Rose, the 2022 Super Senior champion, came close to adding another title but had to settle for second. David Nelson of Littleton, Colo., and James Pearson of Charlotte, N.C. shared third at 1-over 216.

Another playoff was needed in the Legend division, where Michael Jonson of Sammamish, Wash., edged Evan Long of Charlotte, N.C., on the second extra hole after both finished at 4-over 219. Jonson stayed steady with rounds of 73-73-73, while Long posted 74-72-73. Mark Weston of Windermere, Fla., finished third at 6-over 221 (75-73-73).

In the Super Legend division, Greg Mokler of Timnath, Colo., separated himself from the field with a strong closing round of 2-under 70 to finish at 6-over 221 (77-74-70) and win by four shots. Sam Robinson of Jacksonville Beach, Fla. (77-78-70) and Richard Hunt of Bixby, Okla. (75-74-76) shared runner-up honors at 10-over 225.

Across all four divisions, the championship came down to execution under pressure. Hoops’ steady title defense and the pair of playoff finishes highlighted a week where experience and composure ultimately made the difference.
