Brown opens Southern Arizona Amateur with 63

Former pro shoots 63 to lead by three

MARANA, Ariz. (August 23, 2014) — Two former pros are way out front at the Southern Arizona Amateur. Rusty Brown of Phoenix shot 63 on Saturday and leads the event by three shots over another former pro, Adam Walicki, who shot 66. Walicki, who recently reached the semifinals at the Arizona Amateur, is three shots ahead of third place. Former Whitworth College golfer Joey DeGroff is one of four players tied for third with 69s in the opening round. The Gallery Golf Club in Marana is playing to 7,167 yards and is a par-72. Twelve players were at or under par after the first round. The tournament will conclude on Sunday.
