Brewer and Kobashigawa top California Seniors G.A. Four-Ball

The California Seniors Golf Association descended on San Diego for two days of competitive golf and camaraderie, social-distance style.

After the historic association's individual championship was cancelled due to Covid-19 in the spring, spirits were high as San Diego weather didn't disappoint.

San Diego Country Club is known for having some of the fastest and most challenging greens in the area, and in the first round the field was confounded by several extreme pin placements. That didn't stop John Hoffman of San Diego and Tom McKee of Carlsbad from going 4-under, taking a four shot lead into the final round among championship flight contestants.

After going bogey-free on Monday, the duo left the door open for a low round to catch them, as they recorded two team bogeys against three birdies for a 1-under 7 and tournament total of 5-under 139. Kerry Booth and Warren Shafer of the home club were able to pick up a shot on Hoffman and McKee with a 2-under 70 in the final round, putting them alone in second place at 142.

Ken Weixel

Ken Weixel (Santaluz CC) and Pete Wlodkowski (The Olympic Club) took third at 1-under 143, bolstered by Weixel's back nine play on Tuesday that included an ace on the 13th hole (7-iron).

But it was Bill Brewer and Don Kobashigawa of Lakeside Country Club in Burbank who took home the overall gross championship, firing 6-under 138 in the President's flight. Bob Bowne and Has Mohaghegh won the overall net with a score of 132.
