Breakthrough 500: Kobe Valociek Jumps Into the WAGR Top 500 After Arizona Amateur Win

Breaking the Barrier

On Seville Golf & Country Club’s signature island par-3 17th, Valociek stuffed his tee shot inside 10 feet. His putt lipped the cup, teetered, then dropped—swinging the championship match his way. He followed with a closing birdie on the par-5 18th to defeat Tucson’s Jorge Parada 1-up and claim the 101st Arizona Amateur Championship.

The victory fueled one of the week’s biggest ranking moves: an +88 jump to a career-best WAGR No. 430, pushing him securely inside the Top 500.

From Hokie to Wildcat

Before his Arizona Amateur triumph, Valociek built a solid collegiate résumé. He spent four years at Virginia Tech, where he led the Hokies with a 72.49 scoring average in 2023-24 and captured the Steelwood Collegiate with a final-round 66. His consistency earned him an individual NCAA Regional berth at Austin, the first postseason appearance of his career.

In June 2024, Valociek announced his transfer to Kansas State for a final season, joining a roster that returned three of its top performers. Head coach Grant Robbins called him “a tremendous player…with leadership qualities that will make an immediate impact.”

Valociek’s collegiate highlights include:
