Brannon Fahrny wins Long Beach Match Play Championship

Brannon Fahrny defeated Damon Krouse in the Long Beach Match Play final after winning medalist honors.

Brannon Fahrny of Anaheim Hills, Calif., completed a strong two-week run at the Long Beach Match Play Championship, while riding the #1 seed all the way through the bracket to a finals win over Damon Krouse of LA, Calif., by 5 and 4.

The tournament was played over two weeks, from Sep.14-17 and Sept. 22-24, at Recreation Park Golf Course in Long Beach, Calif.

First, Fahrny shot rounds of 61-67, finishing at an impressive 16-under to win medalist honors at the qualifier by a massive eight-stroke margin over Nathaniel Frink, who shot 8-under with rounds of 69-67 to take the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Fahrny's qualifier rounds were marked by a remarkable 14 birdies and two eagles, with both eagles recorded on hole No. 2 during each of the two rounds.

Following his initial rounds, Fahrny proceeded to the Round of 64, where he earned a BYE. In the Round of 32, he faced off against the No. 33 seed, Ryan Curlee, and secured a convincing 5&4 victory to advance to the Round of 16. In this stage, Fahrny continued his impressive performance, defeating Cooper Knight with a commanding score of 7&5, thereby earning his spot in the Quarter Finals.

In the Quarter Finals, Fahrny demonstrated his dominance by defeating Bryson Barnes with an impressive score of 7&6. This victory propelled him to the Semifinals, where he faced off against the No. 5 seed, Eli Geddy, and triumphed with a 5 and 4 win. This paved the way for his showdown in the Championship Finals against No. 18 seed Damon Krouse, who earned his spot in the Finals by defeating the No. 6 seed, Patrick Pockels, with a score of 4&3.

Fahrny defeated Krouse 5&4 to clinch the title.
