Bowen Mauss goes back-to-back at the Utah State Am with a 9-and-7 rout

The Arizona State sophomore never trailed at Soldier Hollow, becoming the first repeat State Amateur champion since Preston Summerhays.

MIDWAY, Utah — Bowen Mauss did not need much of the Gold Course to defend his title. The Arizona State sophomore from Draper closed out Cameron Crawford 9 and 7 on Saturday at Soldier Hollow Golf Club, ending the 128th Utah State Amateur on the 29th hole of a 36-hole final that never felt competitive after the first turn.

Mauss is the first player to go back-to-back in the world's longest continuously held golf tournament since Preston Summerhays in 2018 and 2019 — another Utah product who went on to play at Arizona State. Mauss has now won 12 consecutive State Amateur matches across two summers.
