Blessings Women's Intercollegiate: Arkansas stands strong at home on Day One

Arkansas leads the team competition, while three Razorbacks are in the top three after Day One.

Maria Jose Marin of Arkansas recorded eight birdies en route to a first-round 5-under 67 to lead the Blessings Women's Intercollegiate at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark., by one shot.

Jose Marin made three bogeys in her round as well and made two of those bogeys on Par-5's, but the eight birdies helped her propel to the top of the leaderboard.

Ela Anacona of Arkansas is in solo second place at 4-under. Anacona got off to a hot start, shooting a 4-under 32 on the front nine, including an eagle on No. 2 to start 3-under through the first two holes after she birdied the first hole.

She made three birdies and three bogeys to shoot even par on the back nine.

Miriam Ayora of Arkansas and Lauren Olivares Leon of NC State shot 2-under 70 to sit T3, and Abbey Schutte of Arkansas and Julia Lopez Ramirez of Mississippi State shot 1-under 71 to sit T5 heading into the second round.

In the team competition, it is all Arkansas.

The Arkansas "A" team is in first place after shooting a team score of 3-under. They were the only team to shoot under par.

Mississippi State is in solo second place at 1-over, and the Arkansas "B" team is in solo third place at 3-over.
