CHARLESTON, S.C. — Bert Atkinson secured a slim victory on Sunday at the Charleston City Senior Championship, shooting a final-round 71 to fend off a charging Tony Morelli. Morelli made a Sunday move at Charleston Municipal Golf Course, firing 68 to come within one of forcing a playoff with Atkinson.
First-round leader John Ebersole struggled over the weekend after carding 67 on Friday. His rounds of 78 and 77 pushed him back into the first flight entering the third round. Atkinson trailed by two after Friday before his 68 pushed him into a two-shot, 36-hole lead over Tommy Ford.
Ford came in with 71 on Sunday and took third place. Fourth place went to Tony Gianoukos, while fifth place went to Oren Wood.
In the Super Senior division, Nick Avery ran away with a nine-shot victory, while in the Super Super Senior division, it was Denny Sherrill winning by nine, as well.
