The Meridian, Idaho, native – and an incoming sophomore at Oregon State – won the Idaho Amateur wire-to-wire. Barry had the advantage of playing the event on his home track, Banbury (Idaho) Golf Course.
“It feels amazing to not only win the State Amateur, but to win this on my home course,” Barry told the Idaho Golf Association post-victory. “It was a great day on the course I was playing well, and always enjoy playing with Hunter.”
Hunter Ostrom, winner of the Eastern Amateur and the Southwestern Amateur already this summer, finished runner-up with a final round of 1-under 69 and an overall score of 8-under 202. Ostrom had five birdies in his final round, but his three bogeys gave Barry the room he needed to keep his lead.
Ostrom left it all out on the course at the end by driving the green on No. 17, and hitting a drive on 18 that had eyes for the green, going over 400 yards leaving him only 60 yards out from the green.
Nick Roberts caught his stride in the final round with a 2under 68 and took third place at 5-under 205.
