Derek Baade made home-course knowledge count, while Paul Mitzel provided the early fireworks as both posted 4-under 68s to share the first-round lead at the 41st PNGA Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Wash.
Baade, a Royal Oaks member, put together a clean card with four birdies and no bogeys. The former New Mexico State golfer turned professional after college before regaining his amateur status.
