Anthony Bonales wins Modesto City

UC Riverside golfer Anthony Bonales of Ceres, Calif. took home a two-shot win at the Modesto City Championship

MODESTO, Calif. — Anthony Bonales of Ceres captured a two-shot win at the Modesto City Championship on Sunday, beating out Patrick Burda of Modesto. Bonales, who will be a sophomore this fall at UC Riverside, shot 67 on day one to share the lead with Marc Peterson, and fired 69 on day two at Dryden Park Golf Course. Burda, who trailed Bonales and Peterson by three after the first round, shot the lowest round on Sunday (68) to finish alone in second place. Peterson ended up in third place after 72 on Sunday, while Jamie Looper and Peter Canevari tied for fourth place at 141. In the senior flight, Ron Collet opened with 71 and closed with 76 but still managed to take home a five-shot win. David Halvorson took second place at 152 (74-78) while Dave Marks fired 75 on Sunday to grab third place at 153.
