GREENSBORO, NC (July 24, 2016) -- On the final day of the Cardinal Amateur at the difficult Sedgefield Country Club Andy Ogletree shot a 3-under 67 to pull away and finish 8-under, five clear of the field. Three players; Andrew Buchanan (SMU), Joseph Cansler and Eric Bae all tied for second at 3-under.
Ogletree, the wire-to-wire winner, began the day tied with Cansler before creating some separation during his Sunday round. The future Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket, birdied his first two holes before giving both shots back with bogeys on Nos. 8 and 9. With his round seemingly stuck in neutral and the field hanging around, Ogletree birdied the 13th hole and then eagled the par-5 15th to officially sign, seal and deliver the title.
UNC Greensboro junior Joseph Cansler was never able to get anything going on Sunday, shooting a 1-over 72. Cansler bogeyed five holes and birdied three during his final round.
Second-ranked mid-amateur Scott Harvey tied for fifth with Wesley Conover (ECU) after a 2-under 54-hole score.
Harvery matched the low round of the day with his 4-under 66 to move from 2-over to 2-under. Harvey birdied five holes and bogeyed only one during his round. Up next for Harvey is the Porters Cup beginning Wednesday at Niagara Falls Country Club.
