Andrew Hydorn wins 2022 Greater Houston Senior City Golf title

Hydorn takes advantage of defending champion's misfortune to walk away with the title at Gus Wortham Golf Course

Andrew Hydorn shot 5-over 218 over three days at Gus Wortham Golf Course to win the 2022 Greater Houston Senior City Golf Championship by one shot over defending champion David Ortego, who after birdieing holes 15-17 to go up by two, triple-bogeyed the final hole.

“This is a passion for me, playing competitive golf and continuing to try and get better,” Hydorn, 57, said following a 2-over-73 on Sunday. "I’m thrilled to be able to win this. There’s just so many good players in the metropolitan area. To be able to fight through 54 holes and come out on top, it’s an honor.”

Playing in the final pairing with Mike Booker, Hydorn two-putted from 16 feet on No. 18 to secure victory. Last year at this tournament, Hydorn missed a 10-foot putt on the 18th hole to get into a playoff with Ortego. Three weeks ago, at Champions Golf Club, Hydorn, who plays out of Northgate Country Club, lost in a playoff to Sandy Pierce in the Texas Senior Amateur.

Titus Harris finished third at 7 over and Booker, who has won this event four times, was fourth at 8 over. Steve Moran won the Super Senior division at 1 over, beating Chuck Reeve by a stroke.
