Amateurs score decisive win over pros in Hannon Cup

The amateurs defeated the professionals, 21.5-10.5.

AUSTIN, Texas (Nov. 13, 2018) – The amateurs have won the Hannon Cup, and by a definitive margin. On a tough weather day in Austin, the amateurs won seven of 12 singles matches to finish off a 21.5-10.5 victory over the professionals. The amateurs now lead the professionals in the series, 12-10.

The amateurs led from the beginning, coming out of opening foursomes matches with a 5.5-2.5 lead at Spanish Oaks Golf Club. They increased their lead in afternoon four-balls to 11.5-4.5. Chris Hartenstein and Barrett Sandefur carried the torch for the professionals, earning a point in both the morning and afternoon. They were the only team to do so, considering that no other professional duo won a point in the four-ball session.

Tuesday-morning singles began with professional Tim Hamm getting a win over Chris Benestante. Amateurs won the next four matches, however.
