Amari Avery Dominates for Individual Title, USC Trojans Triumph at Chambers Bay

The standout amateur moved closer to the program record in individual wins while the team won by 31 shots.

18-year-old Amari Avery, a junior at Southern California, who is ranked 3rd on the Golfweek.com/Amateur Golf Rankings shot 9-under with rounds of 68-72-67 to win by two-strokes at the Leadership and Golf Invitational at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash.

Avery's fellow USC Trojans, Catherine Park, and Brianna Navarrosa, each posted total scores of 7-under, finishing runners-up in the tournament. Christine Wang, the fourth member of the team, contributed with a score of 2-under, earning a solo-5th place finish. This remarkable performance placed all four participants in the top five spots on the leaderboard.

Avery's impressive stroke average of 71.76 currently stands as the eighth-best in school history. However, the tournament marked a significant milestone in her legacy, as she not only shattered USC's record for the most rounds in the 60s for a career with 23 but also climbed into a tie for second-most career wins with a total of five.

In the team competition, they collectively recorded a remarkable 27-under-par score over three rounds of play. This achievement stands as USC's lowest total since their outstanding 39-under-par performance at the Icon Invitational in February 2022 and marks their most substantial victory margin since a 34-stroke win at The Gold Rush tournament in February 2021.

Minnesota secured the runners-up position with a score of 4-under and team scores of 283-285-300, trailing the USC Trojans by a significant 31-stroke margin.
