Amanda Gyllner of Sweden and Mia Cho of Carmichael, Calif., were the only two golfers to shoot under par en route to earning medalist honors in the Championship Division at the 2025 San Francisco Women's Championship stroke play qualifying round at Lincoln Park Golf Course.
Gyllner and Cho shot impressive rounds of 1-under 69 on a day when rainy and windy conditions tested the golfers.
"When I was on the first tee, I knew it would be rough with the rain and the wind," Gyllner said.
Gyllner is from Sweden and visiting her sister, Rebecca, a junior on the golf team at San Jose State. Rebecca is a teammate of Nicola Kaminski, who won the 2024 San Francisco City Women's Championship.
Rebecca is also Amanda's caddie for the championship.
"We just wanted to take it one shot at a time and play solid and consistent," Gyllner said.
Gyllner added, "It’s awesome for me to play outside in March." She recorded three birdies and two bogeys, with all the birdies coming on the back nine.
Similar to Gyllner, Cho recorded four birdies and three bogeys in the round.
"I feel like today was a lot of bipolar golf," Cho said. "At the start, I thought if I got a par, I would be fine."
Even after earning co-medalist honors, Cho thought she left some scoring out there today.
"I did pretty good," Cho said. "But I left a lot of putts out there that I could have made. I am disappointed about that."
This is a tournament that Cho has a lot of experience in and is familiar with as a California native.
"It’s really nice," Cho said about earning co-medalist honors. "I haven’t had a tournament, so I zeroed in on this one because I have played it since I was really young."
Cho added, "I have always wanted to win this thing."
Taylor Baker and Lexi Lowe finished T3 at 1-over, and 2024 medalist Nicole Iniakov, Wa Yeung Tong, and Isabelle Duan finished T5 at 2-over.
In the Senior Division, Kate Zhang earned medalist honors at 16-over by three shots over Melissa Spencer.
Starting Saturday, the top 32 competitors will be placed into a match-play bracket and take on TPC Harding Park. They will be divided into two groups of sixteen golfers.
