Agathe Laisne wins European Ladies Championship

As the leaders struggled during the final round Agathe Laisne surged with a last day bogey-free 5-under 67

Switzerland (July 29, 2017) - As the leaders struggled during the final round of the European Ladies Championship Agathe Laisne surged with a last day bogey-free 5-under 67 to tally a one-stroke victory over Switzerland native Albane Valenzuela. Laisne, of France, began the day eight-strokes back but as Valenzuela, the overnight leader faltered with a 4-over 76 the incoming Texas freshman was able to capitalize. The first birdie of the day for Laisne dropped on No. 8 and despite a 1-under 34 front nine she still appeared well out of the mix. However, on the back nine Laisne really got things going with consecutive birdies on Nos. 11-13 to reach 7-under, thus setting the state for what ultimately proved to be the winning birdie on No. 18. Laisne, 8-under for the tournament, started the week with a consecutive 1-over 73's before rebounding with a 5-under 67 in the third round that gave her a chance on Saturday. Valenzuela, who represented Switzerland in the Olympics last year, had a chance to force a playoff but she bogeyed the 17th and parred the closing par-5. Morgane Metraux finished third at 6-under, Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir was fourth at 5-under while in fifth it was Carlotta Ricolfi, Dorthea Forbrigid and Zhen Bonton at 3-under.
