A familiar name was at the top as the final day of the Savannah City Amateur Golf Championship came to a close Sunday at Bacon Park Golf Course.
John Skeadas II had used a strong 6-under-par 65 on Saturday to cruise into the lead, and parlayed it with a 2-under 69 on Sunday to win his fifth Savannah City Amateur title by two strokes. Skeadas II, who last won in 2014, said he knew he was in good shape when he made a par putt on 17 and needed only to make par on 18 to secure the win.
“I felt really in control all weekend of my golf game. I was able to control my golf ball and the distances were right,” said Skeadas II. “I made all my 6-footers when you have to, and that’s how you win.”
The soon-to-be 61-year-old Savannah native said he had won the tournament before it even began, and it had nothing to do with the scorecard.
