The Senior division is down to four, and the Super Senior final is now set at Harding Park.
Friday’s match play tightened both brackets, with the Senior division down to four and the Super Senior championship match now decided.
The San Francisco City Championship has reached a critical turning point at TPC Harding Park, where two days of match play have reshaped both senior divisions.
The Men’s Senior bracket is now down to its final four contenders, while the Men’s Super Senior division has already produced its championship matchup. As always at Harding Park, the path from qualifying to contention has been anything but predictable.
The Senior division has delivered one of the most unpredictable brackets of the championship, and after two full rounds of match play, only four players remain.
Medalist Mike Stieler (1) continues to anchor the bracket, advancing with a dominant 5 & 3 victory over Michael Staskus (8) to secure his place in the semifinals.
He will be joined by Todd Doss (13), who has been one of the steadiest performers in the field. Doss defeated Craig Miyamoto (28) 3 & 2 to continue his run through the middle of the bracket.
On the opposite side, Steve Haynes (26) has emerged as one of the biggest stories of the week, continuing his upset streak and advancing with a 2 & 1 victory over Lawrence Alioto (15).
Joining him is Bob Niger (6), who delivered one of the most decisive wins of the round, defeating Stephen Sear (3) 4 & 3.
That leaves a semifinal lineup of Stieler vs. Doss and Haynes vs. Niger—a mix of top-seed stability and lower-seed momentum that perfectly reflects how volatile this bracket has been from the start.
The Super Senior division moved even faster, completing its semifinal round and setting up the championship match.
Top seed Rob Miller (1) continued his steady march through the bracket, defeating Jeff Thomas (4) 1 up in a tightly contested semifinal.
On the other side, Dean Prince (10) delivered a strong performance to defeat Jim Williams (3) 3 & 2, earning his place in the final.
That sets up a compelling championship match between Miller and Prince, pairing the top seed with one of the bracket’s strongest challengers.
With the brackets nearly complete, the City Championship now shifts into its final phase.
The Senior division will play its semifinals to determine who advances to the championship match, while the Super Senior division is now one match away from crowning its winner.
At Harding Park, there is no margin left. Every match from here forward will define the championship.
